Hello there.
I’m Stefan Hartwig, a partner and designer at Electric Pulp, an interactive design firm based in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, USA. I maintain The Bird & The Sea to provide a helpful service that allows people to quickly and easily peruse information related to the environment, sustainability and leaving a lighter footprint.
Many of the sites included are ones that I follow myself, but others were gathered based on a combination of topical searches and blogrolls from within the eco-blog community. The criteria for inclusion were quality of content, posting frequency and whether or not the site has some semblance of a polished design.
The Background.
The site was originally intended to be a side project allowing my wife, Angela, and I to provide free photography and design services to environmental non-profits in need, so I wanted a name for the site that offered an abstract visual of natural simplicity.
When I came to my senses and realized that we didn’t have time to do more work on top of what we’re already doing with our other businesses, I took a different approach and developed the current site — a passive service. This allows me to do something useful (make a difference and all that) without the stress of adding to an already taxing development schedule (wah, wah, poor me). Anyway, hopefully you find it useful.
Site Recommedations.
I probably missed some very good content out there, so give me a heads up if you have a suggestion.
